  • Ross Verlag postcard of Gerhard Pechner,German baritone. He sang at the Charlottenburg opera house in Berlin from 1924, notably as Don Pasquale with Maria Ivogün (a beautiful Hungarian opera singer) and Karl Erb. Mr. Pechner was forced to leave his home country in 1933 because of his personal feelings. He left for Prague, Czechoslavakia and then went on to Buenos Aires, Argentina. His American debut was at the San Francisco, California opera house in 1940 as Mozart's Bartolo and in 1941 joined the Metropolitan in New York City. Because of WWII he also recorded, of all things, "Lili Marlene".
