Vaka Moana

The 7 vaka's are the Faafaite from Tahiti, Gualofa from Samoa, Marumaru Atua from the Cook Islands, Te Matau a Maui from Aotearoa (the Maori name for New Zealand), Uto Ni Yalo from Fiji, Ohana Waa from Hawaii, and two pan-Pacific canoes: the Haunui and Hine Moana.undertaking a voyage from Aotearoa to Hawai'i and, beyond that, to the West Coast of the States, returning via various islands such as the Galapagos Islands, the Cocos Islands, finally ending their voyage in the Solomon Islands.
These images are their departure from Hanakoo Beach in Kaanapali on their way to Oahu. Dieter Paulmann and the Okeanos Foundation sponsor the Pacific Voyagers.
